Diaries, 1855-1877.

Photocopies of handwritten diaries. Bennion writes about his life in the Taylorsville area of Utah and in Rush Valley and in Long Valley, Utah. He also lived for a time in Nevada. Bennion was married polygamously, participated in the Utah War of 1857-1858, had an encounter with an Indianin 1858, saw the first handcart company arrive in Salt Lake City in 1856, served on a mission for the Mormon Church to England, and participated in many other activities.

John E. Bennion (1820-1877) was born in Hawarden, Wales. He was converted to the Mormon faith by John Taylor (1808-1887). In 1842 he married Esther Wainwright and a week later they set sail for the United States. A practioner of polygamy, Bennion participated in the Utah War of 1857-58 and went on a mission to England from 1872-73. From the description of Letters of John E. Bennion, 1850-1856.
